I imported a large document from HTML to MS Word. Not surprisingly, some formatting is lost. In particular, one group of subheadings is displayed as “Courier New 10pt Bold.” After cursing for several minutes at Word 2007’s terrible menus, I finally find the style menus — but it’s not in the style menu. Only existing “Quick Formats” are in the style menu. Then I find a right click option to “Select text with similar formatting” — how could I have missed such an obvious solution?
Since it’s a large document, it causes Word to freeze up (on a laptop with 2GB memory) — but eventually comes back from swapping with a selection — everything with “Courier New” font, including not only the headings but code samples, etc. as well. When they say “similar”, they mean “similar.” But what makes the “font face” similar and not “font weight”?
I wonder is there any option to “select text with identical formatting” — I suspect I’ll have to fire up some automation tool, like Watir (which may not work on .docx) and automate the manual updates. Or open it in Open Office and lose all kinds of other formatting.
